Yahoo Data Breach Settlement: check if you qualify and how you can claim

If you had a Yahoo mail account around 2012 and 2016, you can now take part in a class-action settlement to recompense you for losses. For years, hackers have been able to access Yahoo user accounts, stealing private emails, and contacts in not less than three separate attacks.

The security breaches range in scope from two in 2012, when Yahoo said no data was stolen, to 2013, when hackers were able to gain access to more than 3 billion accounts and steal data that includes e-mail addresses, name, phone numbers, and dates of birth, passwords, and answers to security questions from millions of Yahoo users worldwide.

Recently, Yahoo announced that if you had an account at any time around 1st January 2012 and 31st December 2016 and you reside in the United States or Israel, you are in the settlements category and you can file a claim for part of $ 117.5 million compensation fund.

How to know if you're part of the settlement

According to Yahoo, if you had an account between 2016 and 2017, and you have been notified of data breaches through email in 2016 and 2017, and you reside in Israel or United States. Or had an account with many other Yahoo-owned online services like Yahoo Fantasy Sports, Flickr, Yahoo Finance and Tumblr. You can get in touch with the settlement administrator and fill the contact form to confirm that you are eligible for the settlement.

How much you should expect?

The settlement includes a range of reimbursements to reward those whose data has been compromised in the hack. You can fill out claims for money and credit monitoring: At least 2 years of credit monitoring services arranged by AllClearID. This comprises identity theft monitoring of about one million dollars in theft insurance plus identity recovery assistant.

The cash payment if you have credit monitoring and protection services, Yahoo said may range from $100 to a maximum of $358.80, which depends on the available fund after other compensation payouts.

How to file a claim?

You can fill out claims as the main account holder, a small business user, or a paid user. Israeli residents must submit a different claim form. The settlement website has different forms for each kind of claim.

When is the closing date for filing a claim?

You must submit all claim forms online or postmarked mail before July 20, 2020. The compensation is pending last court approval on April 2, 2020. We hope to update you as the story progress.
